Technically a gift for my other half, for their love of Harley Quinn, but I got permission that I could post with my collection.

When I saw this item come up for sale and knowing a few tips on it's timing for creation, I had to jump on it and get it. I was extremely happy to see that this animation cel was actually from BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES episode HARLEY AND IVY which premiered January 18th, 1993; a good 9 months before this iconic character ever appeared in comics (THE BATMAN ADVENTURES #12 - Sept 1993; which technically came out in early August 1993 for distribution). HARLEY AND IVY episode is the 4th animated episode where Harley appears. It's also only in the first season of this animated series, that Harley's pompoms are red (not white), so this is an early unique art piece in the Harley history.

Along with X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, the BATMAN series was a favorite series to watch growing up. The animated series had a really high design and production value in each episode. This particular episode highlights the meeting and initial friendship of Harley and Ivy, which has in the comics developed into a really quirky love story and relationship. Kind of like my own and extremely excited to have this as part of our original art collection.

Wow, a Harley Quinn cel from an episode that aired NINE months before her 1st appearance in the comics. That is super cool and very historic! Love the image too. Congrats and thanks so much for sharing.
