Description

The DC Editors strike again! They rejected this gorgeous Jack Kirby cover art for Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #147 (1972) and replaced it with a much less cool, in my opinion, cover by Murphy Anderson. I’ll never understand why the Superman office wouldn’t just let Jack be Jack. You shouldn’t mess with the King! This piece had cover dress stats added for display by the previous owner. The cover is signed by Kirby as well.

I’m very pleased to add this fantastically fourth-world Kirby Superman cover to my collection. I’m always on the hunt for more Superman by the King of you have a piece for sale or trade.

Cool to see this! DC's editors never had much of a clue about what we fans wanted, and we wanted pure unadulterated Kirby. It was absurd that they had to paste Anderson or Boring Superman faces on all of the King's drawings. I remember being gutted when the Fourth World books were cancelled.

I thought Jimmy Olsen 147's published cover had been done by Neal Adams? Anyway, it doesn't distract from the fact that the original take by Kirby is a real beauty!
