HANK PORTER - "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" first row of the 13th Sunday Comic Strip. Preliminary Original Art (Disney/King Features Syndicate, 1937/38).

Beautiful original preliminary pencil Illustration for the comic strip adaptation to what is quite possibly the most fameous and important Disney movie of all time, "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs".
When Snow White first appeared in theatres around Christmas of 1937, it was decided to create a sequence of 20 Sunday pages which would run above the Mickey Mouse Sundays in early 1938. Those 20 pages told the complete Snow White story, from beginning to end. Of the 20 pages drawn for this sequence, only two are known to exist, luckily a few more of the preliminary pencils have made it, this is a only chance for to have a piece of Snow white original comic strip.
This preliminary was pencilled by Hank Porter, Disney's best comic strip artist, famous for artwork for the publicity department 1936-1950 (movie posters, military insignia etc.), artwork for newspaper strips 1937-1940 (Silly Symphonies), illustrations for Good Housekeeping 1940-1944.
The piece is very large, has an overall size of 27" x 5.5".

HANK PORTER - "Biancaneve e i Sette Nani" Preliminare per Sunday Strip (Top).
(Disney/King Features Syndicate, 1937/38).

Bellissima illustrazione preliminare a matita utilizzata per l'adattamento a fumetti di quello che è il film Disney più famoso e importante di tutti i tempi, "Biancaneve e i Sette Nani".
Quando Biancaneve apparve per la prima volta nei cinema intorno al Natale del 1937, fu deciso di creare in contemporanea una sequenza di 20 pagine domenicali che raccontavano l'intera storia di Biancaneve. Delle 20 pagine disegnate per questa sequenza, si sa che esistono solo due Sunday originali, entrambe vendute su HA nel 2013 (una a 26.000$), fortunatamente alcune matite preliminari sono sopravvissute, e ad oggi sono l'unica possibilità per chi vuole possedere uno di questi pezzi di storia degli anni d'oro della Disney.
La striscia è stata illustrata da Hank Porter, un artista di grande talento, anche se forse meno conosciuto di altri. Porter ha lavorato nel dipartimento di arte pubblicitaria della Disney dal 1936 al 1950, ha lavorato per le comic strip dal 1937 al 1940 (Silly Symphonies), ha realizzato numerose Illustrazioni per la rivista Good Housekeeping (1940-1944).
La prima versione italiana di Biancaneve fu pubblicata nel 1938 sul Topolino Giornale, dal n.265 al 284. Questa striscia la troviamo per intero nel primo pannello a pag.13 del n.277 del Topolino Giornale. Sempre nel '38 la storia fu raccolta nell'albo doppio speciale n.66 degli albi Nel Regno Di Topolino.
Curiosità: Quasi tutti i preliminari di Porter coincidono con la versione definitiva, in questo caso è da notare l'ultima vignetta dove Biancaneve, con una lacrima sul viso, è pronta ad aprire la porta per andare via, mentre nella versione pubblicata Biancaneve è ancora vicino al letto e non piange. Forse all'ultimo minuto Porter ha deciso di cambiare la scena perchè risultava troppo triste!
L'arte originale è molto grande, misura 68x14 cm, il titolo nel primo pannello è una copia aggiunta.
