DescriptionWhat defines a 'grail'? No, honestly here. I hear the term used a lot, and always with VERY justified reason; the pieces the term is attached to are always worthy of it... But, by its very definition, can there only be one in every collection? On the other hand, does every collection HAVE to have one? Is it "A" special piece the collector couldn’t resist, or is it "THE" piece de resistance? Situational or acquisitional? I guess the point may very well be moot: however you choose to define it, this may very well be my grail: a Paul Pope original from his 'X-Statix' issue.I fell in love with Paul's work via the 'THB' backup in 'Cerebus' and have avidly followed his career since. Allred and Milligan's 'X-Statix' ('X-Force') was the title that re-introduced Marvel Comics to me at a time when I was proudly only buying indies. When Paul drew an issue a year and a half into the run it was a confirmation / stamp of approval on how cool and awesome I knew this book to be. It's tough to get a Paul Pope original piece of published work and I honestly never thought I'd have this opportunity - from THIS book, with THESE characters. Just... thank you. Thank you, Paul, for opening up The Vaults and allowing us this opportunity, and thank you, Felix, for the amazing communication and facilitating the exchange. (Also, this piece is a monster 19x24. I've read about the scale Paul works in, but seeing it in person makes for an incredible experience...!) Social/Sharing |

Great looking page, Paul's inks must look great in person at full scale.

What a glorious page by a unique talent! And 19 x 24 is an amazing size. Congratulations on the achievement of your grail, Jason!

I can't imagine how great this looks in person. Each panel is perfect and provides many opportunities for a memorable avatar ;)

So bold with his brush! I think I prefer Paul's interiors at 19x24 over covers at the same size. Big congrats!
