Description

The designers of Spider-man and his Amazing Friends wanted a female character resembling Mary Jane but didn't want to actually use MJ so the concept of Angelica Jones/Firestar came about.

This is the final original pencil model drawing of Firestar by animator Rick Hoberg that took influences from John Romita Sr's initial drawings of her as John was a creative consultant on the show. This is a front view that clearly shows the lightning bolt like streaks (colored red in the cartoon) that were added after John Sr's concepts which looked great on the cartoon, but were later removed in the comic books because it didn't translate as well.

There were also influences from an older Marvel character named Spitfire, with coloring and the use of a mask.
