Description

40 years ago today, Spider-man and his Amazing Friends debuted on NBC's Saturday morning cartoon lineup and I've been a lifelong fan ever since. Before that my favorite cartoon was Super Friends but Spidey and friends quickly took over the #1 spot.

To celebrate, I present to you a super rare cel of Iron Man from season 3 episode 5, "Origin of the Spider-friends". While Tony Stark was a main character in the episode, Tony as Iron Man appeared in a flashback sequence lasting only 15 seconds which would be his only appearance in the entire series. Before that Iron Man's first animated appearance was in the Grantray-Lawrence Animation produced 1966 cartoon show "The Marvel Super Heroes", which created the first Spidey cartoon in 1967.

Cel is on a spacey hand painted background, with asteroids and air brush effects painted on the the cel.

The effects are painted on the same cell as Iron Man? This is a celebration of Marvel tradition to have a crossover cameo linking the characters for the public under the same universe.

Yup, I remember this episode! Had it on VHS :) "Iron Man is really Tony Stark". Nice colors, nice nostalgia! Congrats!
