DescriptionFantastic original Christmas-themed Pogo daily from 1952 with two wonderful large panels and on top of this it has been hand signed and colored by Walt Kelly himself. The story behind this is that the grandfather of the last owner was close friends with a local newspaper editor (California), who got him this wonderful piece. It has resided with the family for over 60 years until it was bestowed upon me...there are only very few handcoloured pieces (by the looks of it I would say he used water colors) by Kelly around and it is actually the first daily I have seen... You can also still see lots of the blue pencil that Kelly used for the preliminary scetches... First published December 19th 1952...If anyone has more info on handcoloured Pogo art, please let me know...Social/Sharing |

Congratulations on your wedding and all my best to you and your family! You certainly picked a great wedding gift to yourself as this is a wonderful Pogo daily and made even more special by Waly Kelly hand coloring it! This is my favorite of all the Pogo pieces you have posted so far!

Those Christmas dailies are all incredible, and a hand-colored Christmas daily is certainly among the most outstanding Pogo artwork you can ever hope to obtain. Long live King Sauerkraut!

This is beyond wonderful. I only wish we could know the full circumstances that led to this daily being hand-colored.
