Description

In 1984 Dave Stevens was a guest at that years Comix Fair in Houston. My friend Mark and I drove over to Houston from San Antonio just because Dave would be there. We were fans of his Rocketeer comic story which by then had three or four installments completed. Dave was just the nicest guy you would ever want to meet and we got to hang out with him for most of the afternoon. He had even brought a portfolio full of Rocketeer originals which were just amazing to see in person. During the afternoon, he even asked us to watch his table so he could shop for comic books in the dealers room! On his return we both asked him to do a sketch for us, I asked for the Rocketeer and Mark got a Bettie which I will post here once Mark scans it for me. If memory serves, he wanted to charge us $5.00 each but we insisted on paying him $10.00 since he took his time doing them. Halfway through the Bettie sketch, he didn't like what he had done, crumpled it up and started all over, ever the perfectionist.

Let me stress, I don't own this, Mark does, but we thought it deserved its own post here since we both went to the convention together, met Dave together, and both asked him to do a sketch. The good old days live on in our memories, as does Dave!
