Description

Future State The Next Batman #1 made a splash recently for having an African-American Batman. But the first black Batman was actually created by Stan Lee and Joe Kubert in 2002. Just Imagine was a series that featured Stan teaming up with DC artists to reinterpret the classic characters with a Stan Lee touch.

On this page, a bat enters the cell of falsely imprisoned Wayne Washington. Later in the story, Wayne uses this as inspiration, of course, to become Batman. Love the moody inking and shadows on the page drawn by a true master of the craft, Kubert. It's pretty cool to think he was still doing work like this late in his career.
