DescriptionALEX ROSS - X-MEN - 75 YEARS OF MARVEL - COVER - yes please!!!The things we collectors value in paper products is so foreign to those outside this market, but when a piece like this comes up and for a fairly reasonable price, it’s invaluable for the joy it can bring. Never did I expect to be able to add an Alex Ross piece to my collection, none-the-less X-Men related, and a cover honoring Marvel 75 Years celebration. Yes it’s a prelim (very small, around 4” x 6” for artwork) and likely a quick sketch, but so much of what started here in composition ended up being in the final masterpiece. Seen here are characters from the X-Men, which is the foundation of my collection, celebrated through the years. Starting with the founding original five: Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Iceman (which in the final product are magnificently rendered and colored); then you get the second genesis generation of X-Men and Professor X: Colossus, Nightcrawler, Prof X, Wolverine, and Storm (in the final product shaded blue lines). This early piece to what becomes an iconic legendary masterpiece for the X Team by Ross is an X-ceptional add to my collection and crosses a few items off the checklist. Social/Sharing |

congrats on the Alex Ross addition to your collection! it's definately satisfying to obtain art from a legendary tier of artists even when it's not possible to do otherwise without the magic of prelims, roughs, or unpublished pieces and I've done the same from time to time myself. In this case even with this rough pencil thumbnails/layout you can see each characger/figure and the beginnings of the final cover take place. The fully sketched cover version and the final painted cover are both incredible as well of course, cool to see the start of his process to create it.

Many congrats on this piece! Even though it's a prelim, it's brilliantly executed and has Ross, so to speak, all over it - and it's also a cover prelim at that.

This may be one of the most complex covers he has done for the X-Men with an all new composition that had to start with these thumbnails. Even at this size, it is packed with so much thought and imagination. The Angel escaping to fly free is a nice touch.

Congrats! I love these Alex Ross prelims and they were among the very first types of art in my collection. I love that Angel figure outside the box - really sets this one apart. Fantastic!
