DescriptionHope everyone is having a great Memorial Day!We close out Cover Month here at Shemp"s Gallery with a doozy from 1998. So many heroes! I love DC comics and it's heroes. It's what I read growing up. It's what I collected. To have a cover with this many heroes is awesome! I remember loving this cover when it came out (11 & 12 were my favorite). It is a great mix of heroes. When it was offered to me I knew I had to jump on it. What more can be said? Kison did an incredible job on this. Superhero roll call: Aquaman, Black Canary, Flash, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern. Left side: Golden Age Atom, Superman, Sargon the Sorcerer, Tarantula (before the change to the brown costume?), Metamorpho, Wildcat, Liberty Belle, Hawkgirl, the Metal Men, Deadman and Phantom Lady Right side: Atom, Batman, Sandman, Doctor Mid-Nite, Starman, Dr Fate, Snapper Carr, Robotman, Negative Man, Hourman, The Ray, The Blackhawks, Elasti Girl, Alan Scott Green Lantern, Crimson Avenger, Wing, Firebrand, Blue Beetle, Human Bomb, the Sea Devil's, the Challengers of the Unknown, Black Condor, Johnny Quick, the Spectre and Green Arrow. Whew! That's quite the roll call! From 1998 JLA: Year One #12 by Barry Kitson. Thank you all for visiting Shemp's Gallery for Cover Month. Be back next week as June is Superman month! We'll celebrate Superman with a new post each Sunday for the month of june. Thanks again Social/Sharing |

A doozy it is! The roadmap to the revitalization of the Justice League would be complete with the Grant Morrison and Howard Porter ongoing, but the frosting and cherry on top were The Nail, Midsummer's Nightmare, and Year One! These series proved how powerful a force the JLA franchise can be outside of a main title and every iteration of DC since has had Justice League on their launch. Glamorous full roster cover tradition continues here!

Wow, that background! Kitson didn't add any shading to any of those characters, but still, that is a hell of a lot of work to put in! The foreground figures full rendered with a light source creates a really nice separation from the background characters as well.

Shades of George of Perez! I can't believe he drew all those heroes on the page!
And he did it again!
