Description

I do not normally collect illustration art. Not that I think there is anything wrong about it, it just isn't one of my interests. I made an exception in this case because of the interesting design patterns and the use of negative space. Also there is a comic book connection.

This piece was originally in the collection of Joe Simon. Judging from the label attached to the back of the art, he picked it up from some art agency. Joe then used it with some alterations as the basis for the cover for Young Brides #25 (October 1955). See the attached addition image.

Very nice patterns on the trunks and beach towel. Lovely how her shoes, swimsuit, and purse blend into the white in the pattern as well. The comic cover has a more evocative pose, but this is classy commercial artwork that could be used for many more applications.

That's a special piece, Harry! I love the pattern of the blanket matching the skin tones of the figures. Just a beautiful design all around. Huge congrats!
