DescriptionI wasn't sure how appropriate it would be to include this art here in CAF, it certainly is not what one would typically describe as comic art. Even the artist would be better described as a graphic novelist than a comic book artist. In October 2021, Raina took on the challenge to create a piece of art each day of the month. Her subjects each day was her cats done in ink on 5 by 7 inch watercolor paper. She kept a few for herself but the rest were auctioned on eBay as a fundraiser for The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention service for LGBTQ youth. I used to periodically visit a comic book store right across the street from the Empire State Building. One of its attractions for me was a rack of mini comics. These were artist made affairs using a Xerox copier and folding the pages to make a small comic book with a relatively low number of pages. I still have one on Modok (because after all who doesn't love Modok) and another of prehistoric life (because I was an avid fossil collector in my youth). But all in all the mini comics were made by artists with a lot of enthusiasm not yet matched with much talent. There was one glaring exception, "Take Out" by Raina. Her art in that mini was already outstanding and you could tell she was going places. Social/Sharing |

Love this! Very appropriate for CAF, IMO. I'm sure Bill Cox would agree, given his statements on previous CAF Updates lamenting that he restricted the website too much by including "comic" in the title, since he would like people to include illustration, fantasy, etc. I bet that comic shop you frequented was a previous location for Midtown Comics (I'm 90% sure that's what it was...), where I shopped a lot on the early 2000s.
