Description

In the late 80s/early 90s, Black Canary had a moment. She was in the JL relaunch, prominent in Long Bow Hunters/Green Arrow, and then reborn in her own mini and series. Sarah Byam, Trevor von Eeden, and Bob Smith took her through several stories as a non-powered vigilante.

The book moved her forward in a lot of ways, including taking her back to her roots - especially with her bombshell look. Von Eeden really shined in these stories, getting to mix up superhero and film noir conventions.

Trevor mixed a lot of detail (look at those fishnets and that jacket in the top panel) with some much looser drawings (her face in the third panel) to great effect.

I was lucky enough to buy this piece directly from Mr Von Eeden via Facebook. Make sure to check him out there. It was a super smooth purchase and his emoji game is strong.

Great artistic style that was all the more refreshing when compared to all of the Image artist clones that were on the scene in 1993.

Ooo La La! Even a scene in the morgue can have this type of appeal with Black Canary! Her fishnets pattern versus the cold tile pattern is really cool and out there to do.
