Description

The Best Batman: The Animated Series episode that never happened.

The Story goes that Dini pitch the idea that Batman is hanging between life and death after facing the big villain team-up. There inside The Dreaming , Batman finds himself in front of Death and Sandman. Death appears to be happy as she finally has the chance to ease him over to the other side, as Batman has dodge her several times, earning him the nickname The Cheater of Death. At this moment Morpheus intervenes and asks his Sister Death to spare him for now as Batman is responsible for more dreams than he knows. He haunts the dreams of the wicked and instills dreams of hope in the people he's saved. In its own way Batman is an agent of The Dreaming.

The Pitch was rejected as it was a bit too meta-physical and They didn't want kids to be watching their Saturday morning cartoons only to be introduced to a character from a book "for mature readers. But Neil Gaiman was onboard 100%.
