Description

While many of David Wright�s Carol Day strips showcase his nearly unparalleled ability to draw portraits and scenes, to offset shadow with light, to use so many lines to create such clarity in the midst of apparent chaos, I am often drawn to his earlier, simpler strips such as this one.

Three panels, each with a different perspective of, and uncannily-perfect expression of, Carol Day�s ephemeral (not to mention momentary) moods. The brushwork depicting Carol�s ensemble in panel one is the quintessence of elegant simplicity. The background texture behind her head in panel two seems to me to be an extension of her defensiveness, and Carol�s slightly altered posture in panel three so economically and simply suggests her guilty and haughty indignation.

In each panel, check her posture, her neck, the angle of her head. So much suggested in so little!

Nice seeing this piece again, Mark. I used to own it and had it very nicely framed. Is it still in the frame?
