DescriptionBack in 1988, I really loved JLI, and especially this cover. It combined both my Bond phase and the comic book phase of my collecting days. I believe it was that year, 1988 or maybe 1989, I was at the San Diego ComicCon, and Al Gordon (the original series inker) had that cover at his table. I really wanted to buy it, but he told me it wasn't for sale... and then later in the show, I saw another collector showing it off. So, I guess it was for sale after all.So this piece pops up on eBay listed by Maguire. There are some really subtle differences like the tilts of the head and placement of legs in this piece. They seem to improve the image in my mind; just the same but better. I lucked out. Is the 1988 original out there somewhere?? Social/Sharing |

Man, I just hate that. Can't tell you how many times I've been told by an artist that something isn't for sale and the next thing you know, it's in someone's collection. Infuriating, and one of the few things an artist can do to make me lose total respect for them. Anyway, glad you got another shot at it. I'm a huge Bond fan, so this is a cool one for me. Plus, I loved Maguire and Gordon's run on Justice League.

It just means you did not offer enough or an unexpected bill clunked through the artists letterbox and onto his (un) welcome mat.

Well... he didn't give me a chance to make an offer; he just said it was not for sale. And since this transpired over a weekend, not sure he had (or was aware) of an unforeseen bill. Could be he saw something he wanted. Regardless, I didn't get a chance to buy it.

Ah, yes! Such a classic cover image. I like the slight changes he made as well that you pointed out. Huge congrats on adding this!
