Description

In this issue (on the next few pages) Hellboy's uncle Astaroth welcomes him back "home", recounts his birth and his father's intentions, and then introduces him to his 2 older brothers... who are more than a bit jealous that their father gave him the Right Hand of Doom instead of them.

A lovely setup panel page that echoes Mignola's oft-used X-shaped flow and composition.

Mignola's full use of the inks are great to show the ruins. The first vertical panel where he lets the panel display that well of inks at the bottom adds a depth to the scene.

Fabulous page! The character designs, rock shapes, and framing are so good in every panel. That's a really interesting analysis of flow lines/composition --- hadn't noticed this before. The lines leading down and to the left from the middle right of the page remind me a bit of similar choices made by Corben in his panel pages.
