DescriptionAn unexpected and wonderful trade to finish off 2021! I have always been a huge fan of Armor’s ‘Shade, The Changing Man’-style design, and it is a real treat to have an early appearance of hers by her original creative team (especially on a page that also features another of my favorite Cassaday elements of the run: Hank McCoy / The Beast). Some fantastic Cassaday action storytelling here, exploding out of the tense, danger-fraught setup of the previous page. John Cassaday always seems to come up with JUST the right vantage points to wring the most out of every moment, whether it is a mighty blow, a bull rush, or standing guard between innocents and a monster (while never letting the reader lose track of location/setting changes). The character of Armor was expertly established in this run thanks to moments like this one, and the whole page culminates in a pretty crazy 'Savage Beast' panel at the bottom, with exacting fine linework, white paint, and some blotchy brush spots to lay down some great texture. Sincere thanks don’t begin to cover it, Peter (but I offer them once again)! Happy New Year, all! Social/Sharing |

Cassaday is the only artist who could get me to like the changed appearance(s) to the Beast that Frank Quitely brought about. An excellent page from a really fun run!

A really fun page with two characters Cassaday really left his mark on.
(while having a mental Simonson version when I think of the character, that modernization of Beast by Quitely and Cassaday worked well).
That being said, why oh why do the good guys fight so much between them?

Love the action on this page! Cassaday makes some creative choices in how he renders Beast's fur from panel to panel and I'm here for it! Dry-brushing for the harsher lighting on the final panel is a fun touch. Congrats, man!

I love how Cassaday drew Armor's mutant ability!

I thought I saw a Beast brought to life
He was blue, he wore glasses, and he was dignified
He showed me that he crawled and climbed
Well you couldn't be that man Hank McCoy
You don't seem to know, seem to care what Cassaday art is for
You all know me as Armor
There's fightin' here from left to right
Our brushwork here has run dry
That's what's goin' on
Nothing's fine, I'm torn
I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Wiping you with the bathroom floor
Cerebro has now changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect fur is torn
You're a little late
I am mutant born

Terrific page from an all-time classic Cassaday run! Beast flipping out in that last panel
definitely seals the deal for me.

Outstanding battle page - love the renditions of both Armor and Hank here, both, in many ways, becoming Cassaday's characters at the time. Design elements were great, but also love how he featured IN story...like here! Congrats!

SKRUNCH! KRAKA-KRAKA-KRAKA-KTHOOM! SHHHSKRTCH! GRAAAAAAAAHHH! Such a knock-down drag-out fight needed some onomatopoeia, imo. I well remember this page, and this battle. Armor became a great character during this series under Cassaday's talented hand. As usual, you really don't need any word or anything on the page other than the action. He's such a great visual storyteller. Solid trade, Jason. Congrats!

A great page from one of my favorite runs on the book. The Whedon/Cassaday run is superb and this is a great page from the series. Armor is a wonderul addition to the X-Men roster and this page showing her in motion is just wonderful. Also, Cassaday draws a great feral Beast. Congratuations, my friend!

Oh what a fun piece! Don't remember what Beast did to piss her off, but wasn't his best move.
