DescriptionIf you read comics in the 90s then most likely you read Wizard Magazine…. From a nostalgic standpoint I’m sure more people read these magazines than the average comic! One of the fun features they used to have was Basic Training.. where they got the hot artists of the time to do tutorials on how to draw characters. This one I remember well… Leinil Francis Yu who was the artist on Wolverine at the time showing the fans how to draw the character . I was recently able to pick up all three pieces of the art (thanks Anthony and Karim!). These are pure and very finished pencils by Yu .. you can tell by the detail he took this very seriously. Yu is very famous for his X-men art so very happy to add these early examples!Social/Sharing |

Very cool, Jason! I tried following the instructions and the results were not encouraging.

In the bottom of the article with the claws, Leinil Yu just did for you the cover to Astonishing X-Men #1.

It was a great look into process to begin with, but really makes for a lovely and nostalgic piece of art.

Mine...does not look like that. Sorry, Wolvie...but this one is awesome! I remember this, too. Definite nostalgia bomb. I love how he detailed Wolverine, and that head forward stance with one arm at the ready is so aggressive and perfect. X-cellent! (Sorry, I'll flog myself for that last one)

These are truly gems for a collector! Congrats. Got my "How to draw Witchblade" boards one and a half year ago and really love them.

Wow major nostalgia unlocked! Leinil teaching readers how to draw Wolvie and Ed McGuinness teaching readers to draw Superman are still burned into my head from when I was a kid! Congrats on a unique pick up!
