Welcome back to Shemp's Gallery. Where we showcase a new piece every Sunday.

This month Shemp's Gallery is featuring DC house ads. Why house ads? I enjoy them. I may not have read every DC book published but I've seen all the house ads and remember most of them. Plus they are almost like a cover, a stand alone image by the current penciler of the title or of the upcoming title. I don't actively search for house ad art. If I see a piece and I recognize it and if I can get it for a good price, I buy it. I also try to make sure it's published too.

From 1994 comes this Hawkman "Eyes of the Hawk" house ad. "Eyes of the Hawk" was a four part storyline that ran in Hawkman #14-17. Steve Lieber draws an impressive Hawkman. Loved his work on the title. So much of the arts detail is lost in the published ad. There is so much detail on Hawkman's wings in the original, its beautiful. It's a shame the the published art is a muddy mess. I always wanted a Lieber Hawkman cover and while it's not a cover this is just as good, if not better, than a cover.

Another great house ad! Hawkman is one of the coolest superhero designs in all of comics, and the image here is at least as good as any you would've gotten had you found a Lieber Hawkman cover. Sweet stuff, Shemp!
