DescriptionThe Toddfather has an eye for talent so as he's picking artists for the ever expanding Spawn titles, I've been trying to find OA samples for some of these new (to me) artists and add them to my collection. One of my favorite is Javier Fernandez (see my X-Lives of Wolverine Cover for my other piece I have of his).Fernandez's art has incredible energy to me. When you hold the page, there's a multi-media element - razor blade scratches, lots of ink wash, whiteout and other techniques that are beyond my non-artist ability to decode. On this cover Spawn is in front of a brick wall and eerily busting through the wall are some of the regular's from Spawn's story. Couple other things I love about this page: o Fernandez does a great job making Spawn's chains look 'alive' o The 'ectoplasm' out of Spawn's eye on our right is sweet o Spawn's cape here has almost a smoke-like appearance in places, giving the impression that it's moving around in a wispy kind of way Part of art is 'does it make you feel something' - On this page you can feel the pain of the characters, that flows through Spawn here who is ready for some retribution. Aaaaaaaaand we have another banger! Wow what a cover Scot, I love the shading and contrast on this, and the B&W is superior to the colored version.

You and I are waiting
For Santa Todd to come
There's a present chained to see
Souls trapped in the wall
And knowing you will love Javi

I'm taking a stroll through all the Spawn pieces on CAF since it's "Spawnuary". Love this piece.
