When I described my thoughts on my website's weblog, I actually named names--aren't you sorry you missed that? Naturally, I can't do it here, but no matter; even the most talented people in the eBay Comic Art section--all two of them--don't have the intelligence, foresight or wherewithal to ever go elsewhere or consider doing anything differently. If a baby elephant is tethered by a string, that same thread will hold it as an adult. Follow me? The descriptions alone on eBay should tip people off as to the directly parallel and similarly slovenly techniques of the artists I'm discussing--the sheer number of misspellings and bad grammar should also inform you that they are also just as illiterate with line and form; yet, if you have no idea where an apostrophe goes--as in the difference between "its" and "it's"--then how the heck can you judge a piece of artwork? The maxim here is: "Judgement is everything" and your ability to make clear, accurate judgements, even down to the smallest details, is what separates us from the mandrill. You might have noticed that with one exception I am writing to you out there using complete sentences, but the odds are overwhelmingly against it--approximately 99.9 to 1. Therefore, can you look at a drawing--like the one in this auction--and make any accurate statements about its merits? That is possible, but unlikely. The fact is that to man, the buyers, sellers and dealers here have no real technical artistic criteria to make any judgements whatsoever. They don't know Art, but know what they like, which is mainly--Pornography, which a surprising number of dolts think I am in the business of making. Education in America has roundly and soundly failed its citizenry--most people cannot spell or punctuate, and never read--and Art education lags so far behind literacy and numeracy (that's a big word that means understanding numbers) that it's practically nonexistent; this is why local fanboys judge drawings on such peculiar merits such as whether they are of "sexy girls", and whether they are "from the front". I like girls as much as anyone, but nothing but is asinine. So what's this egomaniac going on about, when his work is nothing but a shadow of Frank Frazetta's? The fact is that if an artist paints barns instead of barbarians, no one around here will ever even notice them. If I painted log cabins, no one would ever mention the Frankster; yet the techniques are the same. Also, the shadow is getting bigger all the time. That's the way people practiced Art for hundreds of years, by rote learning, or what imbeciles call "imitation". The fact is that there are only two criteria used by 99.9% of "Fandom", and those are "that reminds me of..." and ''I like that one the best"; but of course, those aren't really criteria at all. I'd also like to clarify that Comic art indeed used to be good--it just hasn't been any good for a very, very long time now.
