DescriptionDudley Fisher (1890-1951) was the brilliant cartoonist and creator of Right Around Home, featuring the wonderful Myrtle. Fisher, who apprenticed under Billy Ireland at the Columbus Dispatch, worked side-by-side with a young cartoonist chap named Milton Caniff, also an Ireland protegee. Fisher was known for his incredible bird’s-eye view scenes in the Sunday page, often weaving a narrative throughout one gigantic panel. Speaking of gigantic, I’m pleased to offer a huge specialty drawing of Myrtle, swinging a golf club. The piece measures 23”x 17” and was drawn on thick illustration board with brush and ink and watercolor. You can see that the piece is toned, though it’s not as dark as it looks in the scan. The watercolor appears to have been yellow, which is notoriously light fugitive, so much of it has faded, but the ink work remains bright and strong. A rare specialty drawing by one of the underrated greats in the field. $125.00 + 20.00 Priority Mail. Shipping is higher on this one because of the size.Social/Sharing |
