If I need to introduce the great Walt Kelly to you, there�s a chance you may have be hibernating under a pile of three Bushmiller rocks for past 50 years! I�m quite pleased to be able to offer one of Kelly�s pages from the Pogo Possum comic book, published by Dell Comics. This page was published in issue #8 (Jan-March 1952), and was part of the main story in the book, �The Big Rock Candy Quarry�. Rackety Coon Chile and Pogo find sheet music for the song "The Big Rock Candy Mountain" in Albert's trunk, and Albert sets out to find the mountain in order to become a millionaire. This is the page in the story when they actually find the sheet music in Albert�s trunk. The page is so beautifully drawn, with Kelly wielding his brush throughout, playing with panel edges, shadows, compositions, and of course, his wonderful figures. Measuring 14��x 11�, there is some very, very light staining in the first panel, some creases in a couple of panels, and one paste-over. There are tape stains on the back that affect nothing, and pinholes in each corner. The condition is not perfect, but you�d be hard-pressed to find a better example of Kelly�s comic book work, which is much scarcer than the comic strips. $950.00 + 20.00 Priority Mail shipping.
