DescriptionComing from the pages of WOLVERINE ORIGINS #40 - ROMULUS pt 4 (conclusion)This page features Itsu pregnant with Daken (aka, Akihito, Wolverine’s son), one of Wolverine’s early love interests that died because of her connection with him. She was murdered by the Winter Soldier sent by Romulus, and their baby was long thought dead until he is revealed to be alive in Wolverine Origins #10 (2007). This page is a flashback of the moments before Itsu is murdered, brought on by Romulus knocking out Wolverine before leaving him to his own devices. It marks the first real interactions (in comics) Wolverine has with his nemesis/mentor/tormentor Romulus. The Romulus storyline was really well done a great 4 issue arc from Daniel Way. I really enjoyed re-reading and was a fun hunt for Wolverine as he goes through a few baddies (Daken, Omega Red, Wildchild) to finally get through to the mastermind leading him on and testing him, Romulus. Scot Eaton’s art is beautifully rendered, especially Itsu and the environment behind her. The final inking and color work (seen in published page) by Andrew Hennessy and Andy Troy is absolutely eye catching and definitely sold me on the page. I love that I got the original pencils to such a beautiful page. Eaton’s work for environment design/composition, water and character’s faces are really well done and even a bit cinematic. You can feel the explosion of turbulent water as Wolverine comes to life under it, and the calm beauty suddenly as he eyes his once dead lover, Itsu. She is serene like the gentle breeze in the trees behind her. Knowing what it will ultimately lead to is sad, but it’s what makes great drama especially for Wolverine. Social/Sharing |

From Wolvie's denser dark pencil up close intensity to the gentle and serene setting, Eaton's pure pencil production has so much emotional range!

A sad flashback for Wolvie but effectively rendered with very nice pencils/linework by Eaton. Especially like the trees/green behind Itsu in the environment and the anguish/confusion on Wolvie's face in that close up panel.
