So many McFarlane-isms on the page that he would take over to Spawn!  It's Todd operating at his best after a year of writing, pencilling and inking this title he launched!  This is like Spidey got into a mosh pit and the Thwipps are in rhythm with the beat!

Whoof!  With McFarlane's insistence upon bringing back the classic red and blues when he took over as penciler on ASM, it's easy to assume that he may not have cared for the black duds... but pages like this confirm that's not the case!  After reigniting everything Spidey (more a "Spider Turn-Of-Phrase" than a whole "Spider-Verse" at the time... :) ) - and even introducing a black-costumed Spidey villain into the eternal canon - Todd returned Pete to the black and whites to obviously have some fun.  
Your FANTASTIC page here is a highly graphical, highly stylized, highly LYRICAL, "pop art as high art" example of how a Spidey black-costume page can rock the house, starting with that deliciously thick black border and working its way in.  It's like Todd is trying to HIDE Spider-Man on his own battle page here: a dollop of black ink PLUNGING downwards in that -incredible- panel 1, some "beady eyes" in panel 2, and a "thrashing fist raised to the heavens" (Marcus is -totally- right about the mosh pit vibe!) in panel 3.  It's as "punk" of a Spidey page as you'll find (Spider-Punk examples included) - pure attitude - and it feels like it was tailor-made for your collection, Steve.  
This thing rocks -so- hard, and I absolutely love it.  Mega-congrats on checking off another mighty collecting milestone (a McSpidey!) in triumphant, unmistakable style, pal!  Wicked sick! :)

Yes!  When I think McFarlance of the top few stories that comes to mind is the 2-part Sub-City arc.  Congrats on a great example, man!
