DescriptionAt the end of 1981 Greg Hildebrandt began to work with Peter Yates on the pre-production art for the movie, KRULL."From the sky will come the Black Fortress. From the Fortress will come the Slayers to devour the planet of Krull. Then shall a girl of ancient name become queen...she shall choose a king...and together they shall rule the planet. And their son shall rule the galaxy." After working for 4 months on this project Peter Yates went in a different direction for the final film. This art has been in Greg Hildebrandt's private storage since 1982. The film was released in 1983. This intricate character design was created with beautiful pen and brush textures. Greg uses the acrylic wash to layer the scales on the creature creating depth and a sense of realness to the skin. The points on the scales are rendered sharply, adding to the viciousness and intensity of the character. Greens, blues and yellows are used in the reptile sea creature, with pops of reddish pinks in the eyes and mouth that help create focus on the face of the monster. Beautiful how the colors are done to show the darker spine of the reptilian wings and the translucent membrane in between.

You are absolutely correct. When I saw it I had to have, plus gotta love Krull.
