DescriptionLast year Bill hosted a sales show with the team from Japan Comic Art Expo. During the show they offered an absolutely STUNNING piece by Toru Terada. I was tempted to try and claim it, but Zatanna isn't quite in my collecting focus, so I decided to inquire about a commission instead, through Terada's rep, Yoshi .Here is the result. There is beautiful, fastidiously executed detail throughout. Terada-san really fills his pieces with story and style. The fisheye perspective is something I don't see often in commissions, and really frames the scene well. This will be a welcome addition to the framed art gallery. Communication with Yoshi was clear and easy, with realistic expectation being set from the start. Highly recommended. Social/Sharing |

Truly gorgeous end result! Definitely love the art style and line work. Not to mention the wonderful detail that went into creating the background. Excellent commission.

So fishnets is not your thing but tight small tanktops are. I can respect that. I'll just put your check mark in column T.

beautiful and unique. the brightness of the sun against the starkness of the city behind her is really nice, and everything about the figure just fits the character really well.

Yeah, the fisheye lensing was the first thing I noticed. Unique effect on a traditional piece. And all the details here are just insane. Lovely stuff!

Exceptional piece. Incoporating the disovling bird to suggest a wing for her, bent reality of fish eye, details down to stiching on her clothes.

I wish I had your luck with commissions. This is absolutely stunning. All of his artistic choices are brilliant and bold in the way it breaks certain rules. The figure is rendered with no distortion at all, but the lower portion of the background is done in fisheye while the upper portion of the background is reverse fisheye (whatever the technical term for that is). Love the details and the color scheme as well. Congratulations on this beauty. Oh, and I've only had one interaction with Yoshi and he seems to be a very cool dude.

Something's on the air tonight
The line's alive with a burning light
You can mark my words something's about to claim
And I found my Death in Terada fight
While I've held Japan through the artist’s site
Don't know where’s your commission but you're coming soon
To a kid from old Boston by way of California
All of this is more than I've ever known or seen
Come on and we'll sing, like we Yoshi
Push the Expo now watch the world around fly by us
Come on and we'll try, Bill Lash time
I'm off from the floor one more time for Toru
And here we go here's something Death you choose
And here we go there's nothing Death to lose
So I packed my car and I headed east
Where I felt inquire Death’s sweet release
There's desire in this Bill that's counting down
And I don't do lunch but I found you beer
And I cannot wait, Terada’s here
Beantown’s where you're coming from, and you're coming soon

Beautiful commission, M L.
I love the interaction between Death and the vulture. The energy/magic flowing between them, from the vulture to her (is it a soul being brought back to her) or is she energizing it for the journey?
And the perfect tangent making it appear that that is her wing.
Suffice to say, this piece delivers the story-telling

Holy shit, this is absolutely breathtaking! Terada’s style is so unique as compared to most other artists doing commissions of comic characters. That fish eye perspective gives the whole piece this intense, almost cinematic look. Really great effect. The fine line detail just pulls you right in and makes you want to look at it even more closely to see how he achieved the different textures. It looks incredible, and interestingly enough, the 2nd piece posted this week that has stood out to me above allothers, both of which are Death commissions!

It's so nice when a commission experience is smooth & satisfying, especially when the result is as beautiful as this piece is. Wonderful add!

wow , another gem for your collection. I like the 360 wide view way the picture background is framed behind her. plus the clever way he positioned the death bird flying behind her to make it almost like her wings( the sound of her wings) plus the choice of black and grey tones to give it a mnotone feel to the gothic aspect of her person. there are some talented artist over there( I have a couple of mystery sketches from them) who show a very different way of making wonderful art.

An unusually zaftig Death from a master illustrator who rarely accepts commissions and almost never interprets other people's characters. I need to go back and watch that episode!

Wow! I am totally blown away by the beauty of this Toru Terada commission. I have always loved the concept of Death as a young woman and here that concept is gorgeously rendered. I love the fish-eye POV here, don't think I've seen that before-- It's cool the way it makes the buildings curl behind her. And I'm totally fascinated by the bird flying behind/through Death. Is that your idea or Toru's? Either way, it's something new and fresh and different and I like it. Sometimes it's the surprises in commissions that make them really special. Superb pick-up, congrats!

Thanks for the kind words Bill. Everything about the work is 100% Tereada - I only suggested the character.

Good LAWD how'd I miss this? One of the most unique takes on Death I've seen. Just beautiful use of the fish eye lens effect too!

Wow! All those hues of greyish blue...unreal stuff on that textured paper. Love that choice of bending perspective, too. Congrats!
