DescriptionI have never seen The Blair Witch Project although I did pick up the Oni Press one-shot comic that came out around about the same time as the film, and from which this page is taken. I have to confess that when this page turned up on eBay some years ago I was keen to get it but really as only a substitute or even placeholder for what I really wanted which was a page from Bernie Mireault’s The Jam comic. For those who are unfamiliar with that comic it posits what it would be like if an ordinary Joe, someone without any superpowers, dressed up in a sweatshirt, sweatpants and a hood to fight crime. It predates Kick-Ass, but postdates Watchmen, and treats the subject in a much more charmingly lighthearted way than either of those two titles. Bernie Mireault’s instantly-recognisable unique drawing style (and sometimes colouring) are an essential factor in the comic’s appeal. I have never seen any interior pages to The Jam comic appear on sale, at auction, or on CAF, and I wonder if the artist kept all the artwork. I am not one for logoed T-shirts but when licensed T-shirts which featured The Jam symbol – a flattened upside-down triangle which mimics being handsewn onto the chest – went on sale some years back I picked up a couple. I break them out once in a while on special occasions. That is not code for going out to fight crime. The next time I pull one on it will be a poignant moment. I was sad to learn from Dave Cooper’s Instagram that Bernie Mireault passed away today. He was only 63 years of age. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and many fans. Social/Sharing |

A peaceful idyllic New England town, the kind that would be charming from its simplicity and openess. Maybe what Mireault would think as symbolic of life itself when broken down to its core. Left alone, being able to find peace and be in harmony with nature itself whether in life or in death is the truth.

Beautifully put, as per usual. As the details of Bernie Mireault’s death came out it seemed especially sad and whatever one believes one hopes he has, as you say, found peace.
