DescriptionAnother great image of Superman by Jim - looking very imposing against the space/asteroid background with the light right behind. And of course inked by Scott!I definitely miss paging through Wizard every month. There are a few covers that are burned into my mind - this actually ISN'T one of them. It looks like they didn't use the background at all? Social/Sharing |

By this time, it was no secret that Wizard was less influential than ever with the internet eating its lunch for news and hype, their direction to focus their energies into the convention side of the business, and longtime talent moving on. Even with these legit great art gets for their covers, it's usefulness as the arbiter of comic book culture and tastes was waning. The image of this itself contributed to most people's desire to pick up the issue.

Fun fact-this had no background for the Wizard cover, so Jim pencilled and inked the background later. I inked the Superman figure only, the rest is all Jim!

I've had the pleasure of seeing this one in person shortly after Jim Lee finished the background as a commission for the then owner (at least 2 or 3 owners back). Lovely piece with both Williams and Lee inks, so cool to have the pair on a single piece like this, best of both worlds. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!
