DescriptionPeter's got 99 problems but now Betty Bryant ain't one.I've got 99 problems but getting a Ditko ASM ain't one. With many, many thanks to the modern day Amazing Spider Dealer, Mike Burkey. Just drink it in, there's lots to see. Just one of the interesting items is the fact that Ditko drew the left elbow outside the knee initially, but then re-drew it. Update - thanks everyone for the kind comments. A couple of you hit it right on the head too. I asked Burkey - I don’t care about villains or fights - but I want Spidey, and I want Peter being Peter. And he was right. This fit the bill perfectly. Update - It also strikes me that this page is essential in setting up the introduction of Gwen Stacy in the following issue. Social/Sharing |

For everyone out there, M L has a fantastic collection of original art that includes a nice mix of published and commissioned artworks, including 46 Covers from many of the top names in comics from Alex Ross, Gabriele Dell'Otto, Adam Hughes and Tony Daniel. Mikail has been a CAF member for over 3 years and has shared over 250 artworks on the site from his collection, with more than 180 creators represented in total - the definition of a well balanced Comic Art Collector!

Dude! Piece of history but an oustanding piece of art for sure! Love those first and last panels. I remember the page distinctly when first reading the early ASM issues. Classic Ditko. Sitting here mouth agape, man. Congrats!

Fabulous ASM cover! Love the interplay between JJJameson and Peter. But that bottom panel is the killer. Love how Ditko represents Spiderman keeping Peter and Betty apart. Glorious!

The imagery is impeccable, but it is the emotional depth Ditko is able to convey that really makes this page special.

Besides being a gorgeous example of Ditko's art, this is a great example of the pathos and melodrama that made ASM addicting reading and Spidey the most relatable hero of all time. Peter can never catch a break--I know the feeling, Pete!

That bottom panel has been engrained in my memory since the first time I read this story as a kid. Wow!

A perfect JJJ moment, two really dynamic Spideys, an historic moment with Betty, and a sulking love-lorn Parker...Dude, this rocks! It has nearly everything you'd want from a Ditko Spidey page. Peter is even c-blocking himself! Suh-weet score! Spectacular congrats!

Stupendous page, Mikail. For me the early Spideys were as much, if not more, about the human drama as the superheroics. And I sooo remember that last panel.

A damn near perfect page. The drama, the pathos of Peter Parker and the weight of responsibility to serve as Spider-Man and mature in his work and personal relationships. I've been out of touch lately but just want to say to my friend M L congratulations on obtaining this beauty.

Oh wow, what a stunning Ditko Spidey page!! That last panel beautifully sums up the many MANY relationships that have been messed up by virtue of Peter leading his double life.

Pretty sure I've commented before, but just a perfect page. I remember reading it for the first time as a kid so clearly. The essence of the Ditko era in one page.

I'm glad you enjoy the page so much! It's rare, but sometimes people come back after a period of time and leave a second comment on a piece, and I know that the piece is fully appreciated by them. Happy New Year!

Really beautiful classic Marvel drama page with a great "cast" on it, even with Spidey and Peter P. too. And of course PP's first love, Betty and the great J.J.J. I grew up with those clasic Ditko, Romita Sr, etc.. stories and remember this one fondly, colour me jealous !
