I'm thrilled to be able to add another H.M. Wilder cartoon to the collection, as the guy's work is incredibly scarce. The cartoon is in rough shape and has certainly lived a life. I couldn't find any publishing info on the cartoon at first, but noticed, very lightly, a Puck logo on the back, with the date April 1913. Researching a number of Puck archives online, I was able to find the cartoon in the May 14, 1913 issue of the magazine. The piece is titled "Gentle Sleep", with the following caption:

RURAL WANDERER - What time are de cows milked in de morning here?
FARMER'S WIFE - At four o'clock.
RURAL WANDERER - Please instruct de hired man to speak to dem in a whisper. Me and my pal's going ter bunk in yer hay-loft!

A fairly typically corny gag from the time, but Wilder's drawing is truly superb. He had such an eclectic approach, working with an odd double-contour line at times. Wilder was able to combine a wonderful approach to mass in a drawing, along with a sense of animation in his characters.
