DescriptionEmma's become one of my favorite X-Men ever since I got back into comics during Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. I've since gone back to collect her key issues including her first appearance and the series of issues where she becomes an X-Man (Grant Morrison's New X-Men run). I knew I wanted both her and Jean on this blank sketch given the issue is specifically focused on the both characters. I really like Art's more rounded facial features and the heavy inking he does on the silhouettes, so I was happy to have this commissioned when I met him at Fan Expo SF (2023)(book is currently being sent off to CGC, will update image once I get it back) Social/Sharing |

Looks fantastic. Congratulations! I'm sure it will look nice after encapsulation, I want to do the same with my sketch covers someday through cbcs probably. I hope it comes back soon! :)

For my personal preference, I'll submit sketch covers at the time of completion just for provenance because I like that they're witnessed/authenticated. If I had sketch covers that weren't submitted, I'd rather get a traditional frame for display purposes as it would likely be cheaper. Though, there is the element of CBCS verification to consider as well. It's funny, as expensive as OA collecting can be, I'll still nitpick over the value of $50 in grading fees.

For sure, and I like to see the slab as a frame itself, so that is why I want to do it more than a grade or verification :) Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity to submit right when the sketch cover is done, but I think that route is always a great idea! Definitely feel you on the grading fee though, it always makes me hesitate as well haha!

One factor I've been considering more and more with sketch commissions is the size of the paper. While I really like getting specific characters on specific covers, I can't help but think that creators are charging the same amount whether they draw on a 7x10 comic cover or a 9x12 or even 10x14 piece of bristol or sketch paper. In a way, you get more bang for your buck on the full sheet because the creator is more inclined to fill the edges and they have more space for a larger, more detailed piece.
