DescriptionCarlos Dearmas is a master. How he is not a feature variant cover artist in US published comics is beyond me. When I got on his commission list for this piece he warned me that it would likely be a very long wait, but he told me the good news was that he keeps getting better and that in the end I'll probably be glad to have waited. He was very true to his word. It was over two years until my turn came on the list, and each new piece I saw from him was better than the last. I thought he was a genius when I asked to get on the list, but he does seem to be continually leveling up.When my turn came I was a little stuck on a choice, I knew I'd be asking for another piece, but that I'd want that one to be extra large as well so it would likely be years until my turn came up again. So, I shared my decision paralysis, and asked about his thoughts about an overall tribute to Vertigo to include whichever characters he was moved to incorporate, but that would cast a reasonably large net over that corner of the DC universe. As you can see he more than delivered. Obviously, I am very biased, but as a Vertigo fan and Dearmas fan, I think this is his masterpiece, thus far, as he said, he's continually improving. :) I love that he anchored the piece with Swamp Thing as befitting him being the precursor for the Vertigo style. I love the firmament above, with the occult magic characters marching down, and all of the signature Dearmas Easter eggs that you might miss upon first viewing are there as well. It's my wife's favorite piece in my collection, and definitely one of my absolute favorites as well. It's displayed prominently in our home, and I get to see it everyday. I have a couple of other smaller Dearmas pieces in my collection, but can't wait until I have the chance to add another large masterwork again. The image area is 17" by 23" and it's matted and framed with a total area of 24" by 30". Social/Sharing |

Can not believe that I too just happened to post a Dearmas piece during the time this post came up.
Beautiful work from such a talented artist. This is filled with the incredible detail that makes Carlos's work so special.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing this on CAF!

Just... wow!!! What an absolutely beautiful piece! The sheer volume of lines and detail are incredible enough, but I think the composition/arrangement he went with here is what truly elevates it to "masterpiece" status. Congratulations on a fantastic commission!

Wow, what a jaw dropper! Dearmas showing us the full meaning of "Go Big, or Go Home. I can't think of a better ending to a "decision paralysis" story, something I suffer from more and more from as art prices go up.

The subject matter shows Vertigo's characters that go back to the golden age and Dearmas illustrates this whole thing in that old world hand done manner of biblical drawings. It would indeed be Swamp Thing that opened up this portal to new and sophisticated storytelling and retroactively be considered the title that launched the imprint.

As others have aptly stated this piece is incredible. The detail and the composition are a joy to see. I think this is really a piece better seen in person. Congrats on a very special piece.
