DescriptionUsing watercolors, artist David López painted this pretty cool depiction of the blaster slinging Mandalorian making his dramatic entrance at a remote cantina on the icy planet Pagodon. A nod to classic western scenes of the cowboy hero walking into a saloon full of undesirables. The Mandalorian series is truly an ode to spaghetti westerns and the lone samurai films, which were a steady part of my entertainment consumption while growing up. Having these genres mashed together with Star Wars was a dream come true. I know the show has evolved into something much bigger and has somewhat abandoned the fun episodic adventures, but I’m still enjoying it while hoping that the magic of the series remains as it goes onto season 4 or the feature film. You can see López's other Star Wars original covers HERE and HERE . Fun callback to the first episode where Mando makes use of the malfunctioning door of this circular entranceway to dispatch one of those standing in his way in the saloon brawl. Filoni and Favreau set up the gunslinger bounty hunter persona for this masked man much like the Holiday Special did for Boba Fett. the slate grey color palette is here before we find out that he has a heart.

That opening scene is a killer! It was a great introduction, showing he's not someone to mess with. And yeah, he turned out to be a real good guy underneath the tough exterior.

The first season of "The Mandalorian" is some of the best Star Wars material since the original trilogy. This cover beautifully captures the feel of it.

Definitely digging the muted colors throughout this one, from the figure to the background. I gotta get a color Asrar piece at some point! Congrats!

Fabulous Mandalorian cover by David Lopez! Love this image of Mando from the period in which he was totally mysterious, his face hidden, his purpose unknown. He was the modern version of Clint Eastwood's Man in Black. Lopez really captures that here in watercolors almost devoid of color--Everything is just a shade of grey. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
