Here's a look at the final cover art for the Mile High variant for Thor #1 cover drawn by Jorge Molina with pencils, ink and markers. Jorge's chose to introduce the new (female) Thor in this debut issue with a homage to the first appearance of Thor in Journey Into Mystery #83. This variant was limited to 3000 copies.

The issue marked the first story/issue of Jane Foster as Thor, aka Lady Thor! You can imagine I was excited to see the Thor movie announcement at the end of 2020 stating Natalie Portman will play this Thor role in the upcoming movie, Thor: Love and Thunder! She made a powerful debut the week before in a stunning DPS in Thor: God of Thunder #25!

Jane Foster also appeared as Thordis in the "What If: Jane Foster had found the hammer of Thor?" issue What If? #10, which also had a nice homage cover to JIM #83. That early appearance from 1978 was done outside of Marvel's continuity but gave us a great look at Jane Foster wielding the hammer. The movie is set to pull from the 2014 arc.

Yes indeed, a fine homage to JIM #83. But it was first done by Arthur Adams and Walt Simonson for X-Men Annual #9.
