Description

I'm in awe of this heavily detailed and well laid out illustration created by Chris Allen. I love how he created a quiet moment with Riri Williams listening to music with her earbuds on while she runs some diagnostic test or updates on her Ironheart suit. There are so many little details to soak in and enjoy from Riri, her suit, and those floating screens.

Chris noted that he original did this piece for fun in 2019, but that it landed him a 4 page IRONHEART story in Marvel's Voices: Legacy #1 in February 2021, which impressed a lot of editors and led to more Marvel work. That work led to Chris being announced as part of 2023's class of Marvel's Stormbreakers, which Marvel calls, "the next generation of elite artists!" Stormbreakers started in 2020 and I believe took over for Marvel's Young Guns. "Marvel’s Stormbreakers program spotlights the best up-and-coming artists in the comic book industry. Each class has become some of the industry’s most recognized illustrators for their style, creativity, and groundbreaking portfolio work." - Marvel.com

UPDATE Feb 2024: Marvel will be celebrating Women's History Month with a series of variant covers depicting some of Marvel's female icons, each penciled by one member of the current class of Marvel's Stormbreakers, the group of artists that Marvel highlights their top visual storytellers. The cover for Invincible Iron Man #16, out on March 20, has been drawn by Chris Allen and it depicts Riri Williams tinkering with her Ironheart armor.

UPDATE Jul 2024: I'm excited to share this piece has been on display from July 2024 through January 12th, 2025 for the "Collections In Black" exhibit at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburg, PA.

Wow, that is beautifully detailed. It looks amazing. I am glad the colorist did it justice as well. Congrats!

Wow, wow, wow! An incredible drawing and just a wonderful scene that's captured here. I absolutely love that shot of Riri just pondering what to do next. So reminiscent of those Stark/Downey Jr scenes in his lab working things out. Really effective job of layering the foreground (Riri on the floating platform and the Ironheart suit), against the slightly lighter background of the scene/lab. Not familiar with this artist, but this piece certainly go my attention. Congrats buddy! It's absolutely gorgeous!

Dude, this is outstanding! Overall killer design elements, and so much awesome detail. Like you, in awe. It's clear Chris went all out on this one, and had a lot of fun with it, too. Riri and her armor never looked so good :) Big congrats!

I love how you describe the image as being a quiet moment.. which is correct if you look at the pose..but with all the crazy details everywhere..this is not a quiet composition😅. Nice pick up!
