Description"The Emperor" Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary cover. You can almost hear "What is your bidding, my Master?" When I first saw these covers coming out, I knew I wanted to try to pick up a number of them. Thank you to Chris and Karl for doing such great work on these series of images and for being so great to work with! And a special shout out to Chris Ivy for helping to create the overlay to be able to show the assembled piece. Social/Sharing |

One of the most important moments of the trilogy with the first appearance of the Emperor to expland the universe and show there are even greater forces at work than just thinking of Vader as the final boss. The graphic nature of this presentation is top notch with the nothing out of place set design line art by Sprouse and Story.

I'm trying to work out how the final overlay is done. Is it physical and cut out of a screentone sheet? Or was that effect done digitally? Great cover regardless of technique!

Chris Ivy creates overlays by printing on mylar. In this instance, I asked him to make it somewhat transparent. I presume tha tthe published image did something along the same digitally.
