Description

Once upon a time I had a considerable bunch of test pilot memorabilia, due to reading Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff at the right time and suddenly acquiring a father-in-law who worked at Edwards during the glory days. I ended up selling most of that and regret it to this day.

So, anyway, when the 1956 box art for the Strombecker kit of the gen-you-wine rocketship X-1B pops up... I am alert.

This is probably by the celebrated Cal Smith, an aviation artist who handled the fabulous space-related box art for Strombecker in the fifties, including the Disney and Kfrafft Ehricke space kits.
