DescriptionMy very own Risso!I mean... I'm both at a loss for words and bursting at the seams to go on and on about this. I've wanted an original Eduardo Risso page ever since I knew that original art was a thing you could get. Since first seeing it in 100 Bullets over a decade ago (probably closer to two at this point!), he's been one of my favorite artists. Over the years, I've been switching between wanting a commission and a page, but not being able to afford either, it wasn't a big issue. And in the end, I decided I wanted a page, when I would be able to. As great an artist as Risso is, I feel he's an even better storyteller. And that's on clear display on this amazing page. In my mind, this page has everything that Risso is famous for (and everything I love about his art): There's his wonderfully lived-in and decrepit environments, with the grimey bar in panel 1, the even grimmier bathroom in panel 3 (and a bit of the neon signage Risso also excels at in panel 2). The high contrast, chiaroscuro art, often with silhouetted characters, as in panel 4(, sorta 5) and 7 (including sweat beads!). The unusual, highly creative camera angles, that makes his pages so exciting to read is on full display in panel 3 and especially panel 6 (INSIDE the sink? C'mon, Risso! You're too good!). A down on his luck, deadbeat man, trying to stay on top of a sinking ship, with Jonny Double in (almost) every panel. And of course, perhaps most Risso of it all: A sexy femme fatale, gorgeously depicted here with Faith in the final 4 panels. That final panel has an especially strong femme fatale vibe and I love it. All of that AND it's the first collaboration between the 100 Bullets team. This page is written by Brian Azzarello, drawn by Risso, lettered by Clem Robins (one of my favorite letterers!) and (not that this page shows it, but still relevant) colored by original 100 Bullets colorist, Grant Goleash. I mean, for my (first? Only?) Risso page, this is a tremendous get. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. And now that it's in my hands (and soon on my wall!), I can't believe how lucky I am to own this masterpiece! Thank you to Eduardo Risso for creating it (and signing it, before it was sent my way!) and to his son Nicolás, for handling the art sale so wonderfully. He was a delight to work with (and quick too!). (The main image is my own image, taken with my camera. The additional image is the image from Risso's site.) Social/Sharing |

Risso's storytelling and stacking of panels is real nice to balance the solid black and white for a crime noir feel. The thin linework is carefully chosen and Risso uses them to create space and perspective in that large space.

Congratulations! I remember getting my first Risso page like it was yesterday, even though it was almost 20 years ago. I've added many more since then and I'm certain this won't be your last either. and thanks for taking the time with such a thoughtful write up. I really enjoyed reading it and hearing why you love this piece, and Risso, so much. I agree on all counts.
