Description

Huge shout out to John (JN 80) for this piece. He knew I was after Wolverine examples from the original 7 Image Comics founders. After my recent Erik Larsen pickup, the only one left was Jim Valentino (who has very few published Wolverines). One of the few examples on CAF was this awesome Liefeld/Williams DPS that Jim provided the layouts for. To my surprise, John reached out to see if I'd be interested in buying it. A few days later, it was in my collection!

Great depiction of the initial battle between Wolverine, Hulk and Wendigo (though Wolverine sports his revised costume). Some interesting shading techniques to suggest a backlit setting sun. They decided to go with a cleaner look (I'm guessing to not obscure some of the line details) and then add back a few shadows with Tom' Vincent's colors.

Happy it went to a fellow collector who may be one of the biggest wolvie fans I know between unboxing vids with your claws, the multiple 181 cgcs, wolvie statues, wolvie iconic OAs.

I had reached out to Scott about the ink because most people think it's zipatone, but it was a unique style he tried back then...ink splatter with exact frisket technique.

Awesome when these What If? stories are keying in on cannon events that most fans will grasp immediately. Great pre Image era work by all of them who were finding their voice.
