DescriptionI have a possibly irrational love for this cover. Marvel marketed the hell out of this event and the day it dropped my local comic store was swarmed. When I pushed through the crowd and saw the cover it was love at first sight. This was the most menacing Thanos I had ever seen and the amazing blue glow gave the cover this otherworldly vibe that played on my nostalgia from reading the first cosmic stories with Thanos. Little did I know at the time, but many elements of the story would be adapted for Avengers Infinity War like the invasion of Wakanda and all the Black Order characters such as Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight and Black Dwarf. This series was the perfect lead in to the next phase of the MCU and it's easily one of my favorite covers from modern comics. I'll try to take a better picture without the mylar sleeve later.Quick note: there were no pencils for this particular cover. Adam made a blue line sketch and then created the final work entirely with ink over that. There is a separate variant cover made in pencil/graphite which looks similar but was not used to make this cover. Social/Sharing |

Very rare that the Marvel summer event would only have a sole figure to kick off an event. Thanos would be that exception and Kubert made this galaxy spanning menace with a face that would remain etched in our minds to be associated with fear for all time.

Infinity was such a fun arc. Parallel storylines with thanos and the blackorder, and then ronan, superstructure and the avengers going against all odds.

It sure was! It and Secret Wars were probably my two favorite Marvel events of the last decade.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an incredible cover by Adam Kubert! I love Kubert's use of black and white to create this stunning image of Thanos. Has Thanos ever looked more dangerour? I think not. Such a different technique for Kubert using chiaroscuro effects to heighten the tension. I love it!
