DescriptionBrian Michael Bendis' Avengers Saga is one of my favorite superhero epics ever. I started trying to purchase a page from each artist who provided interior art to that tale, and it is with great pleasure that I add these beautiful pages by Daniel Acuna to my collection. The art is all on one 11x17" board, and there are awesome pencil sketches of Spider-Man in the middle space between the two pages. Acuna's gorgeous depiction of Spider-Woman in full combat mode is awesome to behold: first, she attacks Spider-Man while under the control of The Mandrill, then she rallies to overcome the Mandrill's influence after Spidey rolls with her punches!! I thought Acuna created these pages digitally, simply because I never saw any on the market. My heart soared at the last Comic Art Live (Thanks for that, Bill Cox!) when I saw this for sale in the Black Diamond Art gallery. Thrills abound in the hunt for comic art treasure! Thanks to Oscar at blackdiamondbcn.com for helping me with the purchase and shipping the art safely from Spain!Social/Sharing |

SCATCHAMAGOWZA! This is brilliant, Doc! I had assumed Daniel worked completely digital as well, and am thrilled to know his art is out there. Thank you for pointing the way! :)
Both of these pages are sensational, but that page 15 is the best in the book, I think. Spider-Man's pose really reminds me of the old John Romita "swinging" Spidey cornerbox art: totally classic. I think my very favorite panel, though, may be page 15's bottom one: I love how Daniel drew the Mandrill, so to have such a terrific example of that is awesome. I also like how Daniel shaded or toned things in a bit with pencil, as if to 'prep' the work for his colors for publication.
Another terrific add, Doc! Congrats again!

Jason, I agree with your assessment of these pages and Daniel's beautiful artwork! Mandrill totally earned that knuckle sammich with his Hood-enhanced villainy-- such a satisfying moment! Thanks for sending the published scans so everyone can see Acuna's process, my friend!

Incredibly fluid action! Acuna's Spidey is spry and 60's influenced to be have the Ditko movements, but with some heroically clean Romita power shots.

Killer Acuna examples, Doc! Love the choreopgraphy in both, as well as the panel layout - both add to make some dynamic pieces! Congrats!

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful reaction to the choreography! Acuna captured Spidey's defensive movements AND Jessica's aggression so well!
