Byrne and Austin at the top of their game! The early Dazzler, Kitty, and White Queen are amazing, but the Phoenix on here is the clincher being part of the Dark Phoenix Saga.

This was as good as comics get.
Great story and incredible art. The Byrne/Austin combo at it's very best.

This is an incredible example that captures so much of what made the Claremont/Byrne/Austin run on UXM so special. In that top panel each character displays their own individual personality and mannerisms--each one unique. On the bottom, the full fury of the Phoenix going up against the White Queen while a beautiful but terrified Ororo watches--come on, it's all too good! And truly impeccable inks throughout by Terry Austin. Really a perfect page.

X-Men 131 was my first exposure to John Byrne. This page is especially memorable to me. Great page !!

The exchange between Peter and Kitty is prime Claremont. Great perspective work on the finger in panel one. Each running figure in the second panel has a distinct pose. This was story page 13 out of 17 in this issue; perhaps there were nine pages of ads mixed in as well?
