DescriptionAccording to Heritage Auctions back in 2011: "One of the top-flight ghosts who drew Superman from 1940-1943, Leo Nowak was the first artist to portray Lex Luthor as a bald villain (in the comic strip, and later in Superman #10). Nowak was also one of the first to illustrate the antics of Jimmy Olsen in Superman #13. An original letter typed and signed by Leo Nowak describing how became an artist in the Shuster shop, why he left, etc., comes with this piece. Also included is a photocopy of a newspaper article displaying the original owner of the piece holding the art as it is going to be sold at a charity fund-raiser -- great provenance for this piece. This illustration was drawn with pastel or crayon and watercolor on Crescent illustration board, cold press surface no. 300, medium weight. It has an overall size of 11" x 14", and is in Excellent condition."Social/Sharing |
