Description

Art from the Prequal era seems quite elusive so I was thrilled when Dustin Weaver opened the vault of some of his Star Wars art. Tales was my favorite series from that period, a quarterly oversized anthology showcasing a fantastic variety of art and storytelling set in the Star Wars universe. This particular story was a tie-in with the Knights of the Old Republic video game.

Done in pencil, ink, and markers, Dustin's talent with the black and white, somewhat obscured by color in the printed pages, are showcased beautifully here!

The marker tone give all the rock and stone surfaces an ancient feel. Full of atmosphere as the danger emerges from the shadows at a critical juncture of their quest.

Dustin's tonal markers, Brian Thies' ink washes on Legacy volume 2, Dark Horse had a stable of artists that would have rocked a black-and-white Star Wars title. Instead, too many were muddied by color work (no offense to the colorists, they were just doing what was assigned). Always a joy to see these posted here on CAF.
