Description9-2023...From the comic book series published by Dell and based on the classic TV show, this page comes from the story "The Menace That Came From Outer Space!" Strange aliens want to take invade planet Earth, but they are microscopic creatures whose ships cannot enter the Earth's atmosphere. By attacking and entering a satellite, the aliens reach a science lab trying to figure out what brought the satellite out of orbit. Our scientist hero cannot believe his eyes when he sees a tiny alien ship under his microscope, and then they shrink him and pull him in! The aliens escape and get changed to full size. Nothing can stop them (bullets and missiles melt on their skin upon contact and they shoot freeze rays on humans) so it seems a nuclear bombing is the only other logical choice. But at the last minute, there seems to be one experimental substance that can kill the aliens! Will the scientist and his girlfriend prevent nuclear apocalypse in time?I thought the page looked cool, especially with those Muppet like aliens strolling nonchalantly as they contemplate world domination! The Cold War, nuclear war, and science fiction certainly were top of mind in 1964! Though the comic book doesn't credit him, online research seems to credit the great Jack Sparling with the art! Out of context, the only clue you have to something alien is the two figures walking down the street and even then you're questioning why they are doing in a nuclear blast zone. Those super heavy inks are great to keep the guard anonymous and keep our focus on the couple.

As always your analysis is spot on Marcus! It really is some great storytelling and I agree, those heavy inks do an awesome job.
