Description1-2025...Condorito is an internationally recognized comic book character from Chile. A comedy series, Condorito was created in 1949 by Pepo (real name Rene Rios) and drawn by him till the mid 1980s. The character served as a representation of the Chilean people and Pepo created him partly in a response to Walt Disney's 1942 movie "Saludos Amigos" which used different anthropomorphic characters to represent different Latin American countries; for Chile, a small plane called Pedrito was used, but Pepo believed more in his own creation Condorito as a better national emblem. The "Little Condor" gets in to all sorts of funny mishaps and is shown in all sorts of jobs and situations, from a street vendor, to a doctor, to an astronaut! Usually the gag at the end is rounded out with the butt of the joke falling backward in exasperation and going PLOP! Condorito holds a special place for me because it helped me learn to read Spanish when I was young, having fun with the pictures and jokes, and also brought along the fascination for comic books. I bought a nice bunch of pieces directly from Pepo's grandson, and I'm so glad to add these to my collection. Most of them came with a vellum type color guide on top which also shows the interesting palette Pepo used on his designs. I think I've only seen two other examples of Pepo's work on CAF, so happy to share something that is a bit different! This is from the early 1960s and with a classic gag of changing appearance to avoid the long arm of the law! This gag is so easy to follow with a flow and energy of the big city vibe! The twist is great and that tonic could have made him a fortune!

Thanks Marcus! Yes, the flow is great, particularly how some of the panels are "unframed" and almost in every framed panel there is a bit that goes beyond the panel!
