3-2025...Another nice upload waiting for the July 4th holiday!

A highly detailed view from below the Statue of Liberty is an original 14 field background layout drawing credited to Maurice Noble. Chuck Jones directed this late-period Merry Melodies short about Nelly, a singing giraffe who is brought to America to become a star; it was first shown on 12/30/1961. As Nelly arrives by boat in New York's Upper Bay, she passes by this famous symbol of freedom; see it at the 2:16 timestamp. The unsigned drawing is in graphite and cyan blue pencil, with an approximate image size of 5.5" x 7.5". The art is spot-on in regard to the screen image, even the hazy clouds, which include a note of instruction to background artist Phil DeGuard. VERY cool piece!
